Lombard Notes – formerly Fintech Ruminations – takes inspiration from a long tradition of financial innovation. In medieval Europe, Lombard merchants and bankers from Northern Italy pioneered modern credit and collateralized lending. Their influence stretched across the continent, and in London, Lombard Street became synonymous with banking itself — a hub of goldsmiths, insurers, and financiers that shaped the foundations of global finance.

Featured by Forbes as one of the top 5 free newsletters in Fintech and Crypto, Lombard Notes dares to carry that lineage forward: reflections on the evolving architecture of money — from fintech rails to decentralized finance, from historical banking innovations to the tokenized markets of tomorrow.

About me

My name is Giorgio, but everybody calls me Giorgio (hope you understood the quotation). You can find more about me on my website, Linkedin and X.

I’ve spent over a decade building financial applications in Banking (SumUp, N26), Lending (Funding Circle, Qomodo) and Tokenization (Backed). An engineer by training, I like to mix technical expertise with a historical lens on global finance — connecting dots, separating signal from noise.
